First 2012-13 Girls State Rankings!!

These rankings were derived from the MaxPreps Website.

In 5A, several obvious questions come up...  Could this be the year that Cherry Creek lands out of the top 2?  What kind of impact will Missy Franklin have in the overall team results?  Will Fairview get to the top of the podium after a strong showing at the Coaches Invitational??

In 4A, it looks like a two-team fight for the title may be in order this year between Thompson Valley and Cheyenne Mountain.  With the top 2 schools possibly taking up a large swath of points, it leaves a great deal of opportunity for smaller schools with one or two fast kids to move up the rankings quickly!

Upcoming meets that will likely have a big influence on the rankings over the next couple of weeks:

Boulder County Invitational (Jan 4)
Delta New Year Opener (Jan 5)
Weidman Invitational (Jan 5)

Valor Invitational (Jan 11/12)
Mustang Invitational (Jan 11/12)
Arapahoe Invitational (Jan 12)
Smoky Hill Invitational (Jan 12)
Hornet Invitational (Jan 12)

Next published rankings will be January 15th!

So it begins - again...

Just a few points of clarity before we get this underway

There are several goals that the compilation of the rankings and this site are meant to achieve:

  • To provide a home for the Colorado High School Swimming and Diving top-20 rankings that are derived while the boys or girls are in season. Girls rankings will be posted between late December and early February, while the Boys rankings will be posted between late March and mid May.
  • To generate more excitement during the 12 week high school season ultimately culminating at the 4A and 5A Colorado State Championship Swimming and Diving meets.
  • To provide recognition for the kids that have all worked very hard to achieve this level of success in the sport without having to be a state champion.
  • To provide a one-stop-shop for media outlets to get easy to find, publishable information that hopefully leads to more kids and programs getting more attention that is so richly deserved!
  • To provide motivation in knowing where you or your team stands relative to others.
  • To provide a possible outcome of the 4A or 5A State Championship Meet if it were to be that day.  Of course, this is only a projection and you still have to perform the meet.  It is not a guarantee of what will happen.  Only one of many possibilities.

A few additional points of understanding:

  • This site is in no way affiliated with the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA).
  • This site is in no way affiliated with MaxPreps.com or any other sports website.
  • No one is being paid for this information or process.
  • The information is pulled directly from MaxPreps.com a few hours before posting, so if there is a data issue, it is likely because there is something wrong there.  Please check on that source first, before approaching this site. While it's not live data, it will be known when the sample was taken.
  • The intent of the team rankings is to provide a state meet simulation.  This takes the two highest ranked individual events for an athlete and assigns points to them based upon their projected place.  Adjustments have been made that account for athletes ranked in more than 2 individual events so that the scores are not skewed from one athlete/school.
  • The team rankings are not geared for dual meet predictions.

Final Pre-State Rankings

These rankings were derived from the 5A Psych Sheet and the4A Psych Sheet.

MaxPreps was used to determine diving places/point awards.

Regis looks pretty hard to beat in 5A and close in places 2 through 8, but 4A is wide open!

You can purchase event tickets online at TicketLeap and avoid having to buy them at the event!

Good luck everyone at State and to those that are going on to Olympic Trials this summer!!!

April 24th Rankings

Not much movement this week, but Air Academy and D'Evelyn heading for a major fight in 4A.

Loveland and Cherry Creek will be fighting it out for second in a very close battle as well.

Didn't have time to gather the "Meets of the Week" as I am traveling this week.  Just enough time on the plane to compile and post.

One item of note..  Coaches - If you want to see your times in the rankings, they should be in MaxPreps by 3PM on Monday.  I usually take a snapshot of everything on Monday evening, so 3PM is a pretty safe bet.

Team/Individual Top-20 rankings are at the bottom of this note!!

So it begins...

This will be the first post that goes up for the Colorado High School Swimming and Diving blog..  Or should we call it a SLOG (Swim Web Log)??

Anyway..

Since the change of vendors for storing all of the data has moved from VarVee to MaxPreps, the process of compiling the rankings has become a bit more laborious.  Hopefully over time, this can be improved upon, but for now, a weekly publishing of the rankings might be a bit optimistic.

  • To generate more excitement during the 12 week high school season ultimately culminating at the 4A and 5A Colorado State Championship Swimming and Diving meets.

  • To provide recognition for the kids that have all worked very hard to achieve this level of success in the sport without having to be a state champion.
