Colorado Girls Swimming and Diving Rankings Posted Here (12-31-2015)

Valor and Fairview start the new year and new season at the top of the rankings with others in pursuit.  Fairview starts with over a 100 point jump on Regis, while Valor has a much more narrow 30 point lead over Cheyenne Mountain.

At this point the question has to be asked about impact of the Olympic Trials this summer, and kids that have opted not to swim high school this year to focus in on that effort....  Is it crippling teams that could be stronger?? Those that have their full teams seem to have a definite advantage so far.

Big meets in January outside of the League/State meets:

Jan 8/9 - Mountain View, (Mountain Range) Mustang, Mountain Vista Invitationals

Jan 15/16 - Arapahoe, (Pueblo County) Hornet & Smoky Hill Invitationals
Jan 22/23 - Jeffco & Boulder County Invitationals

Next Rankings Published - Week of Jan 11th

Boys & Girls Swimming: NISCA Awards All-American Certification to Athletes

The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) has recently announced their annual All-American honors, and Colorado has it's share of recipients.  The awards are determined first based upon times/scores that coaches submit at the end of the season and that meet a very high consideration time or score standard. After the submission window closes, the Top-100 times/scores are ranked and awarded.

Colorado had strong representation in the lists and had the 9th highest overall number of recipients with the following stats:

Colorado (9th):
  Boys - 12 Relays, 28 Individuals, 3 divers, 79 splashes earned All-American status
  Girls - 10 Relays, 28 individuals, 4 divers, 72 splashes earned All-American status
  Overall - 151 splashes earned All-America standing

2015-16 NISCA High School Swimming and Diving All-American List

NISCA also awards Academic All-Americans based upon submitted athletes who have a 3.75 cumulative GPA as of their first semester of their Senior year.  Colorado had a significant number of student athletes qualify for this honor as well.  Colorado had 6 boys and 33 girls earn this prestigious award.  For the boys, Cheyenne Mountain and Fossil Ridge led the way with 2 boys each, while 8 girls from Fairview and 5 girls from Monarch, Mountain Vista, and Fossil Ridge had the highest counts.

2015 Boys State Post-Prelim Rankings

This is why prelims matter...  Based on Friday's prelim session, the top 2 teams have established a very solid lead.  In 5A, Regis put themselves in contention for a title after coming into the meet at 5th place, while Cheyenne Mountain looks very hard to beat in 4A and may dethrone Air Academy who had some stellar individual swims.

May 10 Colorado Boys HS Swimming and Diving Rankings Posted!

Colorado Boys Swimming and Diving Rankings Posted Here (5-10-2015)

Top-3 4A - Cheyenne Mountain, Air Academy, Thompson Valley
Top-3 5A - Boulder, Fossil Ridge, Fairview

Now that league meet results are in, the State meet looks about the same in 4A, but in 5A, Fossil Ridge and Fairview have now moved into the top 3, though you can bet that at the meet, both Cherry Creek and Regis will have something to say about it.  These teams traditionally do not swim their fastest swimmers at league, so be forewarned...  You still have to swim the meet!!  It's one thing to come in with a high ranking, but another to execute and to even rise above it.  In 4A, there was some shuffling of the top 10 as well, so both meets look to be a lot of fun to see how it all plays out!  One more set of rankings will be published right after the psych sheets come out around Tuesday/Wednesday this week.

Colorado Boys Swimming and Diving Rankings Posted Here (4-28-2015)

Top-3 4A - Cheyenne Mountain, Air Academy, Thompson Valley
Top-3 5A - Boulder, Cherry Creek, Regis

Both 4A and 5A look to be competitive with lots of other teams not far behind!  Should be a great State Meet in both cases that could come down to performance not only in Finals, but Prelims too, as having a couple of guys miss Finals that land in Consols could definitely sway the meet one way or another.  Relays will also obviously be critical - first, not to get DQ'd, second, to cover the 3 relays as strong as possible.  Saving some "horses" in prelims may be something that helps going into finals.  Definitely going to be a meet where coaching will have a role in the final result!

April 21 Colorado Boys HS Swimming and Diving Rankings Posted!

Colorado Boys Swimming and Diving Rankings Posted Here (4-21-2015)

Since it appears that many people appear to be coming to this site for current rankings, I will go ahead and continue to post rankings here.  I was reluctant to post anything, and didn't do so publicly during the girls season because it's been said that some coaches didn't "like the rankings and that it will ruffle feathers".  I've also been told specifically not to publish rankings because it would "spoil the surprise"

After a lot of consideration, and in grand scheme of things, this is about the kids and the teams getting publicity for all of the work that they do.  It generates buzz and excitement about the sport that we love!  If it ruffles a few feathers because some team cannot "sneak up" on another team, so be it.  In today's media world, not much of anything is a secret any more, and if a team or athlete wins, hopefully it's because they beat all-comers, and not because of some administrative gaffe. This resistance is really tired and old-school.  Get over it...

Finally, most every other sport does rankings by opinions.  This is *NOT* how these rankings are done. These rankings are strictly taken from data that is required to be submitted to MaxPreps (much more than the Top-20 event rankings there too)!  The team rankings are derived from taking the top two events of each swimmer and scoring events based upon those places, as well as relays and 11-dive scores from diving.  This is pure numbers and facts - no opinions here, which makes it better and more realistic! There is no charge for this, and it's hoped that media outlets see this as a tool that they can depend upon to augment news about the kids and teams that deserve it! Remember, you always have to swim the meet, so while this may serve as an attempt to predict the state meet, it isn't worth anything once the meet starts!

Good luck to everyone!!
